Salcombe, our base for this section of the South West Coast Path, is Devon's most southerly resort, and the turquoise waters of the Kingsbridge Estuary and colour-washed cottages give the town a Mediterranean feel. Previously a major port for fishing and the fruit trade, it's clean sandy beaches and sheltered harbour now make it one of Devon's most popular holiday destinations and a favourite with the yachting fraternity.
Salcombe has an range of shops, restaurants, beach cafés and pubs serving food in the evening, and several shops where one can purchase the makings of a packed lunch.
The daily meeting point in Salcombe is White Strand car park, by the ferry pontoon.

How to reach Salcombe by public transport; The nearest railway station is Totnes. Totnes is on the main West Country line from London Paddington to Penzance. From Totnes there are hourly buses (Tally Ho! service No. 164) to Salcombe; journey time 58 minutes.
